Petition on Causes Urges Congress to “X the Text”

Posted by Sarah Koch on February 5th, 2010

Allstate and the National Organization for Youth Safety (NOYS) have joined together to advocate against texting and driving.  The campaign, “X the Text,” is focused on educating young drivers on the dangers of texting while driving.  They are using a petition on Causes, “Allstate and NOYS Need Your Help: Tell Congress to X the TXT,” to gather signatures to urge Congress to “aggressively pursue measures that would ban the dangerous and distracting practice of texting while driving.“

On Tuesday, February 9th, Allstate and NOYS will deliver the petition to members of Congress, so sign the petition today: http://apps.facebook.com/causes/petitions/340.

At that event, Allstate will also present the money donated through a matching grant on their cause “Thumbs Up to the Safest Holiday Ever.”  The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety reports that reaching for a phone while driving increases your risk of being in a car crash by nine times.  Join the cause and sign the petition today to help “X the Text” and keep our roads safe!
