Prevent Child Abuse America just launched The One Percent Challenge, a fundraising campaign to raise $35,000 for child abuse prevention programs in honor of April, which is Child Abuse Awareness Month. This campaign represents an innovative use of Causes’ new fundraising project tool, which allows nonprofits to create specific fundraising goals for discrete periods of time. Prevent Child Abuse America motivates their members by explaining how important 1% can be:
“What difference can 1% make?
If we save 1% of the costs of child abuse to society (incarceration, treatment and lost productivity), we would save $1.04 billion, which could be allocated back into prevention, including parenting education, voluntary home visitation and other community-based services.”
The One Percent Challenge is named for the goal of raising the equivalent of $1 from 1% of the members of Prevent Child Abuse America’s causes. The $35,000 fundraising goal represents one percent of the whopping 3.5 million members in the 8 causes benefiting PCAA. This campaign is a fantastic example of a nonprofit working with supporters they’ve found through the Causes application. PCAA’s largest cause, Society Against Child Abuse, was started by two college students named Evan and Christa. PCAA plans to work with Evan, Christa, the creators of their other causes, as well as the top recruiters to each of their 8 causes, to make this campaign a success. They will also send informative and inspiring bulletins with a “Donate” call to action, thank their donors individually and as a group, and reach out to everyone that promotes the campaign to their friends – all features in the Nonprofit Partner Center at http://nonprofits.causes.com
If you are a nonprofit, consider setting up a fundraising campaign for a specific program that will motivate your supporters to get more involved on the cause. If you are a cause administrator or creator, now is also a great time to reach out to the contact at your nonprofit beneficiary and ask them if they have any fundraising campaigns that your cause may be able to contribute to. If you need support in fundraising, check out our Best Practices for Fundraising or contact partner@causes.com. And don’t forget to check out The One Percent Challenge!
