Causes announces Give a Minute for charity

Posted Mar 29, 2011 by

We’re really excited to announce a new feature we’ve been working on called Give a Minute which is a new way for users to donate their time to charity by completing short, sponsored activities that result in a charitable donation. By filling out a brief quiz or watching a sponsored video, Causes users will trigger a donation on behalf of the advertiser to any nonprofit associated with Causes.

With Give a Minute, Causes now offers a third giving option

Give a Minute represents a new direction for Causes regarding cause marketing. We already pair nonprofits with companies that match grants and other social media cause marketing campaigns through sponsored causes. Give a Minute is another solution to connect brands and nonprofits, helping companies bridge their corporate social responsibility budgets with their marketing budgets to create more meaningful marketing and advertising campaigns that engage users. By allowing people to take small actions and donate time instead of money, we hope to empower more people to include giving to charity as a part of their everyday lives.

“Social media has changed people’s expectations of how they interact with the companies they patronize,” said Joe Green, founder and President of Causes.com. “Consumers expect brands to be socially responsible and increasingly make their choices based on how a company conducts itself ethically and gives back to the community. We think Give a Minute provides a smarter way for companies to conduct social media marketing because it connects users to a brand through causes they care about.”

Give a Minute draws its advertising stock from partners SocialVibe, TrialPay and Y, serving interactive advertising content that Causes users can opt to click through to raise money for nonprofits. An average activity takes only about 30 seconds to complete and results in a donation to charity of between 10 and 50 cents. All it takes is choosing a cause you’re passionate about and a minute of your time. Simple.
