Companies

Whether you are looking to build brand recognition and reputation, organize your employees for a giving campaign, or partner with a particular cause community to take action, we build tools to help you achieve your goals.  Companies can sponsor causes through matching grants or host challenges between causes in order to multiply the impact of their philanthropy.

Sponsor a Cause

Perhaps the best way  for a company to reach out to Facebook users is the Cause Sponsorship Program, which allows companies to support the causes and nonprofits they care about in an authentic and impactful way. Companies sponsor causes by providing a matching grant, which typically ranges from $10,000 to $500,000 per cause. The match offer incentivizes cause members to recruit new supporters to the cause and fundraise for its nonprofit beneficiary. Sponsoring a cause with a matching grant allows a company to promote its brand through public philanthropy.  To learn more, read our one page overview and check out the case study below:

Ben and Jerry’s Sponsors Common Cause

Yes PeCan!

Ben and Jerry’s launched the Yes PeCan! campaign in “Scoop Shops” across the country and online with Causes on January 5th, 2009. The campaign benefited Common Cause, a nonprofit organization that works for transparency and accountability in government.

Ben and Jerry’s sponsored Common Cause through a $10,000 matching grant that mobilized its cause members:

* $1 to Common Cause for every new member recruited to the cause
* $1 to Common Cause for every dollar donated through the cause

Matching Grant

The grant was a wild success, boosting Common Cause’s cause by over 13,000 members in less than 72 hours (while the matching grant was available) and over 22,000 in the month of January. Common Cause then translated that momentum into a petition that gathered 75,000 signatures in less than 6 weeks.

Ben and Jerry’s, for its part, was prominently featured in over 2 million Stream stories and 150,000 personal cause invitations.  Its Fan Page, moreover, gained 33,000 fans and saw a 5x increase in daily unique visitors for the duration of the campaign.

Host a Challenge through Causes

Your company can support multiple nonprofits at the same time by hosting a giving challenge on Causes that motivates causes and nonprofits to compete on the basis of recruitment, fundraising, or another measure of impact.  We can also work with you to create an internal challenge in which teams of employees or entirely different branches of the company compete against one another to have the biggest impact for one or more nonprofits.  If your company is interested in sponsoring a giving challenge, big or small, please contact us at companies@causes.com

United Way’s “Live United” Challenge

united-way

Launched in June 2008, the United Way Challenge on Causes was part of a national “Live United” effort to mobilize volunteers to contribute to innovative local projects, awarding a total of $50,000 to local United Way affiliates over three phases of increasing difficulty.  In the first phase, local affiliates created causes, invited Facebook users to join them, and the three causes with the most members after one week shared $5,000 in prize money; in the second phase, $10,000 was divided amongst the three causes with the most “advocates”, defined as cause members who recruited three or more new people to the cause; in the third phase, $35,000 was divided amongst the top five causes with the most unique donors and volunteers, with all donations directed toward a specific community project.  The challenge was sponsored by Gatorade, FedEx and CheapTickets and the post-challenge landing page can be viewed here.
