Media – Videos, Photos, and Links

How can media help my cause?

A single piece of media can spark a movement.  Causes helps you combine the inspiring power of media with the rapid peer-to-peer sharing of Facebook.  A video can inspire, educate, and motivate people to make a difference.  One photo can open your eyes to an injustice that you never knew existed.  A well-written article can help a cause coalesce around one goal.  In addition, media can be a powerful recruiting and engagement tool.

How do I post media to my cause?

Media items are posted under “Top News” on the lower right side of your main cause page.  To post a media item, enter in a caption where you see the prompt “Share your story” under “Recent Cause Activity.”  Click “Post a photo,” “Post a video,” or “Post a link,” depending on what type of media item you’re sharing.  Many nonprofits have a YouTube channel and can easily link videos from YouTube to the cause.  Once you’ve posted the media item, it will be featured in your cause’s “Top News”.  If the media item is important to your campaign, write a bulletin to your cause members with a link to the media item so they can check it out right away.

How do I know if my cause members view a media item?

When your members watch a video, view a photo, or read an article on your cause, we verify that they’ve viewed it and then give them the tools to post it to their profile and invite specific friends to watch.  They also get credit and encouragement for promoting it through their social network because the video tracks the number of viewers, and not just how many times the video has been played.  A media item in “Top News” will display the number of views this week, while the media item’s subpage will include all time views.
